This cherry keepsake box has walnut miter splines, a laser engraved lid, and is lined with red crushed velvet. The build was a bit of a challenge but bunches of fun. You can watch the build video on Youtube.

Custom Cherry Jewelry Box

A customer contacted me about building a custom version of a cherry jewelry box I have for sale on Etsy. I posted a video of the build on my YouTube channel. This was a fun build. A little tricky in spots, but it turned out nice. After I finished the build, I found the sample and set-up pieces I had saved from the first build. Having them beforehand would have simplified the process, but I got through it using the original box as a prototype.

Bi-Fold Door Cabinet Video

I finally got the video of the cabinet build posted to YouTube. I think the video production was more work than building the cabinet! After seeing how long a single video would be, I broke it into 5 shorter segments. Part 1, linked here, is building a mortising template so the slats will fit into the door stiles. You can find the other 4 on my YouTube Channel. The description under each gives an idea of what it contains so you can skip over any that sound too boring. I didn’t use any fancy effects, just cut segments and dumped them together. Hopefully my video production skills will improve with time. I dropped in a few subtitles to give an idea of what was going on in some scenes. I’m hoping to get a mic at some point so I can add voice overs to future videos. For now I will have to rely on the camera’s internal mic.

New Product Line In The Works

Not this box. I’m waiting for a hardwood delivery before I can start making the new products. The prototype is done, procedure worked out, jigs and templates made. Just need the raw material. Once I have the new stuff listed on Etsy I’ll post pictures here.

The top picture is the prototype for a line of oak boxes I have for sale in my Etsy shop. While sorting lumber to make the boxes, I found a board with a hole in it and a dark bluish stain radiating out from the hole. Apparently some sort of nail or spike had been driven into the tree, causing this unusual discoloration. The stain wraps the corner of the box and is visible on the inside. I have no idea what type of metal would make a bluish colored stain in oak.
