Craftsman Radial Arm Saw Restoration

I’m restoring my dad’s vintage 1974 Craftsman 10″ Radial Arm Saw. This is the first saw I ever used. I was probably 12 or 13 the first time I made cuts with it. I don’t remember my dad actually teaching me how to use it, but I watched him making enough cuts that I didn’t have any concerns. I’ve loved building things for as long as I can remember. My dad always had a stack of scrap lumber around and told me I could use whatever I wanted. The Radial Arm Saw was perfect for me and I got lots of use out of it.

This saw has been sitting in a work building that is open to the outside air for the last 48 years. Not surprisingly it has some rust. I’ll be sanding and repainting the stand and a few small parts. Most of the nuts, bolts, and screws are getting replaced. One of the table supports has severe rust on one end and will need to be replaced. But overall, the saw is in great shape. I’m looking forward to making sawdust with it again after all these years!
